Salsa making; Salsa tasting, Salsa dancing....

Tasty, juicy, sweet--the essence of high summer. We invite you to celebrate the garden's bounty at Lammas, the feast of the first fruits (traditionally August 2). It is the time when the food in the garden is scrumptious, a time when the first hint of autumn can be felt in the air...

Learn How To Make Salsa, on Saturday, July 29th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. . We will start with a garden walk Participants will pick and taste various kinds of tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers, onions and herbs. Then Kasey Johnson, an avid fermenter, will demonstrate how to make several different kinds of salsa. Last year, she shared her own fermented salsa: it was the best I have ever tasted!

Kasey loves to ferment! She recently harvested wild blueberries so she flavored her last batch with blueberry and thyme! She has also fermented sauerkraut, radishes, chutney and mulberry mead!

The farm will then host a potluck and fire circle for farm circle members after the program. The event is free to farm circle members (becoming a member is easy); cost to others? $20.00. Register here.

Enjoy a Taste of Salsa on Saturday, August 5, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

DJ and dance instructor Michael Campbell will entice both beginning and experienced dancers to move to salsa music behind the barn at the farm. Chips, salsa and light drinks will be available for everyone. The farm will host a potluck for farm circle members. We invite circle members to bring their own salsa creations. (Fresh ingredients will be available during the week before the dance!) The potluck will also feature food fresh from the garden.

Cost for the dance? $15/individual; $7/child; $35/family; including a trial farm membership to enjoy the potluck meal? $25/individual; $7/child and $50/family.Register here.

Happy Summer and hope to see you soon!

Sally
